We were fortunate that Pike's Peak and some other attractions opened back up while we were still in CO, so we headed there on our way home.
A little warning about the weather at the top.
Appropriately placed in the middle of all the sweatshirts.
Meeting another train on the way up.
If I remember right this was called Windy Point.
It was named well.
Ummm......I don't know.
Our mode of transportation.
Actually the only way to get to the top during this time.
The highway was closed to traffic due to the wildfires.
At the top!
Enjoying our "world famous" donuts at the top!
Awesome views.
This was a time capsule that had been established not too long ago.
I love that idea.
A friend said she thought she was going to do one for her daughter, and I'm thinking that's a great project.
Ethan got a pocket knife at the gift shop at the summit, so we were checking it out on the ride back down.
Some of the scenery on the way down.
So pretty up there.
You can see smoke from the wildfires here.
We went down into Old Colorado City after Pike's Peak, and as we were down there we started smelling smoke from the fires. The wind must have shifted. This was really the only time we saw anything to do with the wildfires. They seem so small in this picture, yet they caused so much devastation - so heartbreaking.
